SOPA and PIPA

I’m opposed, and appalled. I still need to look through the text of the bill myself, but what I’ve heard about the bill is awful. As a blogger, as a US citizen, and as a human being, I am not alright with Congress’s apparent disregard for the right to free speech.

Wikipedia has a “learn more” page available today in spite of their blackout, which includes this information:

No, neither SOPA nor PIPA is dead. On January 17th, SOPA’s sponsor said the bill will be discussed in early February. There are signs PIPA may be debated on the Senate floor next week. Moreover, SOPA and PIPA are just indicators of a much broader problem. [...]

So there’s plenty to remain vigilant about. (Side note: I’ll have to write something about media reaction, corporate reaction, and public reaction to this issue versus other important issues soon.)

(Edit: I originally wrote “the US Senate” when I meant to write “Congress.” Hah. The David regrets the error.)
